Blueberry Pie is a hot little Rocking Blues Band that makes life go down a little sweeter like dessert before dinner!Created by Ruth Mesrobian
and Doug Volpi after meeting at an open mic and playing together over
the course of a couple years. Ruthie told Dougie of her dream to
start a Blues Band. Dougie took a look at her music book and found
the music and artists in it to be identical to his. Dougie went
into the kitchen, mixed up some Buddy Guy, added lots of Stevie
Ray Vaughan, some Jimi Hendrix, Albert King, Robert Cray, Luther
Allison, Ray Charles and Albert Collins. He called Ruthie into the
kitchen, she put her heart into the mixture and Dougie added all
of his soul. They baked it for a while and when it was done in December
of 2004, they had, Blueberry Pie.
Since then, the band has been very successful, playing venues from Long Island to Bergen County to Rockland, Ulster and Orange Counties. "Freddie Machetto and Dougie lay down a tasty bass and drums crust, while Ruthie and Ralphie fill it up with sweet blues guitar filling. Together they produce one fine slice of rhythm and blues that's so exciting, you'll feel the tingle in your heart and your soul." Honus Bagwart - Bluesoul Magazine Dougie claims that sister Ruthie and brother Ralphie sometimes become possessed by the spirits of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix and that he can see fire come from their fingertips. Doug Volpi, the drummer and lead singer of Blueberry Pie has a voice that sounds like SRV, Eric Clapton, Greg Allman and Luther Allison and can groove on the soul sounds of Sam Cooke and Wilson Pickett. This band is a must see. |
